For the most natural
"tan" possible, follow
these directions:

For the Face
Apply a thin layer of lotion to freshly cleansed skin. Blend evenly over your entire face, feathering edges into your hairline, eyebrows and under your jaw to avoid obvious "tan lines". Because Deep Radiance takes several minutes to dry completely, you can work more slowly to ensure every area of skin is covered. For a completely natural look, apply to entire neck area, over chest and onto shoulders. Apply lotion more lightly on upper lip area, ears, and around eyes. If the lotion gets into your eyes, rinse immediately with cool water. Wait until lotion is completely dry before putting on clothes.
For the Body
Apply a thin layer of lotion to freshly cleansed body areas, one section at a time (thighs, lower legs, feet, arms, shoulders, chest). Apply lightly to areas that bend (elbows, knees, ankles, between toes and fingers) as they can "tan" more darkly. Because Deep Radiance takes several minutes to dry completely, you can work more slowly to ensure every area of skin is covered. Lightly stroke lotion over areas where tan ends to avoid obvious "tan lines". Wait until lotion is completely dry before putting on clothes or shoes, sitting on furniture or going to bed.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Self-Tanning

Will my self-tan provide any protection from the sun?
Deep Radiance Self-Tan does not contain sunscreen, therefore, it offers no protection from sunburn. We left the sunscreen out because self-tans with sunscrens only protect for several hours after you apply them - they don't offer protection during the lifetime of your tan. We recommend that you always apply an SPF 15 or higher before exposing your skin to sunlight. However, new research indicates a well-developed self-tan may give your sunscreen a small boost in SPF protection. And cumulative sun damage, especially from aging UVA rays, may be lessened when a dark self--tan is maintained through the year.

Is Deep Radiance Self-Tan safe for children?
Not only is it completely safe for children, some researchers are actually suggesting that a well-developed self-tan maintained throughout the year may be highly recommended for children, since sun damage begins when we're young.

What's the best way to keep my "tan" from streaking?
While Deep Radiance Self-Tan is designed to spread evenly over your skin, try this trick: Apply the lotion with long, even horizontal strokes, then crossover the same area, this time with long, even vertical strokes.

What's the best time to "tan"?
Most people like to apply Deep Radiance Self-Tan about a half hour before bedtime, so they wake up freshly tanned and ready to start their day.

How often should I reapply Deep Radiance Self-Tan?
That depends on which shade you use. If you want a subtle tan, or are tanning your face, Light-Medium is recommended. For a deeper more obvious tan (think legs), Medium-Dark is best. To maintain the color with no change, apply either shade every two to four days (since every skin is different, you'll need to find what's best for you). For the darkest tan possible from the shade you choose, apply every day. If slight fading is acceptable, apply every five to seven days.

Quick Tips
For the Perfect "Tan"

Plan your tan. Think about where you want to tan before you start, then focus on the areas you're applying the lotion to make sure you cover the area completely. If you're "tanning" for a special event, "tan" several days before the event, just to make sure it looks good. you can always apply a little more the day before the event if necessary.

Take your time. The first time you :tan", plan on at least a half ohour for your entire body. If you hurry, your tan is more likely to streak and turn darker in some areas, while other areas may not tan at all.

Pick your shade. Light-Medium is recommended for your face, hands and light-skinned people, while Medium-Dark is a more likely choice fo ryour legs and other parts of your body, and for dark-skinned people.

Keep skin smooth. Since dead surface cells can produce a splotchy tan and shorten the life of your color, always exfoliate wherever you plan on tanning. Don't exfoliate your tan again until your next lotion application.

For a streak-free tan. Blend, don't dab, lotion onto skin. Apply the lotion evenly, with long, even horizontal strokes, then crossover the same area, this time with long, even vertical strokes. Hands make the best application tools, but keep fingers closed, not spread apart. Sponges tend to spread lotion unevenly and gloves can grab color, using more lotion than needed. Work in large sections, such as the entire upper leg, arm, torso or face. And always feather edges where "tan" ends to avoid obvious tan lines. Don't touch other surfaces, fabrics, shower or bathe for one hour after applying lotion.

For your back, try a non-absorbing sponge on a stick (an absorbent one won't apply the lotion evenly). Make sure to apply with horizontal strokes first, followed by vertical strokes to avoid streaking.

Don't touch fabrics until the lotion is completely dry (usually 5-15 minutes). This includes clothing, towels, sheets, blankets, carpet, and furniture. Natural fibers like silk and cotton can "tan", too.

Rinse your hands. After lotion is applied, rinse your hands well with soap and warm water. Pay special attention to your palms, knuckles and between your fingers. Use a nail brush to remove lotion from under nails and on cuticles.

Tan your hands. Once hands are rinsed thoroughly after applying Deep Radiance Self-Tan to the face and/or body, apply lotion to back of hands with cotton ball or pad. The Light-Medium shade is recommended. Sweep across backs of hands and fingers, applying lightly to knuckles and between fingers, then feathering around fingertips and up to wrist. When applying lotion to arms, feather down over wrists. Otherwise, a darker line may form when lotion is applied to hands. Avoid fingernails as color can collect and darken nails.

Protect your hair. Light to medium shades of hair, especially grey and blonde, can darken just like your skin. Avoid touching hair with lotion. If lotion gets into hair, remove immediately with wet towel. you can also cover hair that is likely to be exposed to lotion, such as your hairline and eyebrows, with petroleum jelly prior to applying lotion.

To prevent color from grabbing. Knees, ankles, shins, elbows, underarms, cuticles or other areas tend to be dry or rough, causing color to grab and look blotchy. To keep skin moist, apply moisturizing lotion about an hour before applying self-tan. Reapply lotion one or more times each day.

To speed-up drying use a blow dryer on a low setting. hold at least twelve inches from skin until lotion is dry.

To remove the "tan" from areas you don't want it, or to even-out streaks or areas where you've applied too much, try 20 Volume Peroxide Developer from the drug store or beauty supply. Apply with a small cotton bal until the color is the shade you want.

To avoid turning orange. Do not apply more than three times in a 24 hour period.

Protect in the sun. Because Deep Radiance Self-Tan does not contain sunscreen, wear a minimum SPF 15 sunscren when exposed to sunlight. Solar Defender SPF 28 UVA/UVB Moderate Protection Sunscreen, is a revolutionary sunscreen formula that's both gentle and extremely effective at protecting from aging UVA and burning UVB rays. Contains Octinoxate, the most popular UVB sunscreen in the world, and micronized Zinc Oxide, the gentlest UVA-protective sunscreen available.

Normalize the skin color of cellulite, stretch marks or scars. with Deep Radiance Self-Tan.

To "tan" children. Apply Deep Radiance Self-Tan as directed. Avoid use on extremely young children or infants.
